Asphalt shingle roofing is the most prevalent roofing type across Tavares, FL residential properties, and shingle repair represents the service category our team addresses most frequently. The technical demands of quality shingle repair are consistently underestimated both by property owners who attempt self-repair and by contractors who approach shingle work as a simple material replacement exercise without attention to the installation details that determine whether the repair will hold through the weather events your roof will face in the coming seasons.
Shingle matching is the first technical challenge in most repair situations. Dimensional asphalt shingles are produced in specific profile configurations, weight classes, and granule color blends that change with product line updates and manufacturing batch variations. A repair that introduces shingles with a significantly different profile creates drainage discontinuities at the repair boundary. A repair using shingles with a different weight class produces a zone of different wind uplift resistance performance that may fail before the surrounding roofing in the next high-wind event. We maintain inventory of common shingle profiles and work through our supplier network to source appropriate matches for repair situations where our stock does not provide an adequate option.
Correct nailing is the most critical installation detail in shingle repair and the one most frequently performed incorrectly by both DIY attempts and less experienced contractors. The nailing zone for each shingle type is defined by the manufacturer at a specific location on the shingle face, and nails placed above or below this zone reduce the wind uplift resistance of the shingle installed above the fastener. Overdriven nails that penetrate too deep cut through the shingle mat rather than securing it. Underdriven nails that stand proud of the shingle surface prevent the overlying shingle from lying flat and sealing against the underlying course. Our technicians understand nailing zone requirements for each shingle type we work with and apply consistent fastener placement and seating throughout every repair project.
Sealant application and adjacent flashing inspection are the final components of quality shingle repair. In cool weather or on north-facing roof slopes where factory sealant strip thermal activation may be incomplete, hand-sealing each installed shingle course is the appropriate practice to prevent wind uplift during the first winter following repair. Every shingle repair assessment we perform in Tavares, FL includes inspection of adjacent flashing components because the conditions that damage shingles often simultaneously affect nearby flashing, and a shingle repair that leaves deteriorating adjacent flashing in place provides only partial protection.
