Severe weather events create roofing damage patterns that differ fundamentally from normal aging deterioration, and correctly identifying storm-specific damage types is critical both for accurate repair scoping and for effective insurance claim documentation. SkyCrest Roofing has assessed and repaired storm damage across Somerville, TN properties throughout our fifteen years of operation in this community, developing the pattern recognition and documentation capabilities that translate investigation findings into actionable repair scopes and defensible insurance claims.
Hail damage is among the most consequential and most consistently misread storm damage types encountered on Somerville, TN rooftops. The obvious indicators, granule displacement creating circular marks and surface denting, represent the visible surface of a damage pattern whose most significant element is often invisible at the surface. Hail impact fractures the fiberglass mat beneath the granule layer, creating stress lines that progressively allow water infiltration through shingle material that appears intact from exterior observation. This underlying mat damage is the condition that insurance policies are designed to cover and that actually affects the remaining service life of the roofing system. Assessing hail damage requires close-range inspection of all roof faces, not just the most obviously affected exposure, because hailstone trajectories and rebound patterns affect all roof surfaces to varying degrees during a significant hail event.
Wind damage appears in multiple distinct patterns depending on wind speed, direction, and the pre-storm condition of the roofing system's seal strips and fastening. Complete shingle loss is the most obvious form, but wind damage also includes partial seal strip failure that leaves shingles in place but no longer properly bonded, fishmouthing and uplifting at shingle edges, ridge cap displacement that compromises the weather resistance of the entire roof system beneath, and soffit and fascia damage that affects the integrity of the ventilation system. Our assessment documents all of these conditions, not just the visible shingle losses, because insurance adjusters need the complete damage inventory to approve appropriate repair compensation.
Debris damage from fallen branches or wind-carried objects creates localized but potentially penetrating damage that requires both emergency stabilization and subsequent comprehensive permanent repair once the full extent of the damage can be assessed under appropriate conditions. We respond to debris damage situations as emergencies when active water intrusion is occurring and complete permanent repairs as quickly as structural assessment and material sourcing allow. All damage is documented with comprehensive photography and written loss inventories prepared specifically for adjuster use.
